Happy Year of the Dragon to Everyone! It's my birth year so I am especially excited for changes and positive happenings.
I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support of the Rei Shimura series. Your ceaseless encouragement has led me to start writing a NEW Rei Shimura book after a six year hiatus! The novel is untitled (it's still being written), but I can tell you that Rei will return to Japan for this adventure set in post-tsunami Tohoku. The research for this story is fascinating but sad—over 20,000 people died in the tsunami and so many thousands are still displaced from their hometowns, perhaps forever. I am learning a lot from Japanese citizens who experienced the quake and are working to help the victims, and will do my best, through this book, to bring attention and more support to those still suffering in Japan.

The three stories in the Convenience Boy and Other Stories of Japan ($1.99) first appeared in the multi-author anthologies Tart Noir, Malice Domestic 10 and Murder Most Crafty. The Convenience Boy sends Rei on a hunt for an elusive lover. In the second story, Junior High Samurai, she returns to her teaching roots to solve a bullying problem.
